Chrisy Murderbot: Bussin’ Down EP

Saturday, February 26th, 2011

Chrissy Murderbot has hit one over the fences with the Bussin Down E.P.

Chrissy Murderbot – “Bussin’ Down” EP (ZIQ293) by chrissymurderbot

When I first met Murderbot some years ago he was a walking encyclopedia of Chicago Dance/House music knowledge. Apparently Chicago radio stations reached his native Kansas City, so he has been well versed in the genres for years. I say this so that you understand this is not simply another case of “white kids jumping on the Chicago juke fad”.

Murderbot has gone WAY experimental as well, mixing Juke with Dancehall. (I have been asking my friend DJ Thadz to do something for years.lol) Anyway.., Bussin’ Down is quite the courageous undertaking, one which I am proud to be part of.

Make sure you also check for Ghosts on Tape, Atki2 from Steakhouse Records, DJ Rashad and DJ Spinn. Interests in their respective catlogues should definitely be invigorated with this high profile release from Planet Mu Records. The Full length follow up, “Women’s Studies” is due later this year.

Kush Arora: Dread Bass Chronicles (Remixed)

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

In about one week this will be released to stores!

Kush Arora _ The Dread Bass Chronicles REMIXED by KushArora

Kush Arora’s Dread Bass Chronicles. The ever morphing producer of all things Bass started off with a distinctly Indo Dub sound. Traditional instruments of South Asia and the unmistakable 5/4 Bhangra timing characterized the feel of his music.

As a personal friend I remember when Kush began combining these sounds into a Dubstep hybrid, and then the obsession with UK Funky, African House, nowadays it’s Kwaito.. he is really hard to keep up with. Thankfully he has invited me to participate along the way. It’s made my songwriting grow exponentially, and the press actually gave us credit for coming up with something NEW when “Lose Control” dropped :o ) That doesn’t happen every day.

This remix album brings different, and WICKED new producers into play.. Searchl1te, Vinyl Blight, Anon Day, Knight Riderz, Flourescent Grey, Rogue State, Professor Bang, RedBud. Nice cameo from Joey Mousepad on Making Money remix!

No Lies: The Remixes.. Well, Dub Gabriel’s Top 10

Friday, February 11th, 2011

In the fall of 2010 Dubspot, Akai and Ableton announced that they would sponsor a remix competition. The track: No Lies, one I did for Dub Gabriel has been remixed several times, and by producers the world over. The stems are still being downloaded from what I understand.

Anyway here is a collection of Dub Gabriel’s top ten (winners included) free for you to download.

VIVA LA REVOLUCION…! Egypt Deposes Ruler Without Mass Bloodshed

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

I suppose this is the way Revolutions are meant to be run…

1) A given population wakes up and collectively decides they do not like the current state of affairs

2) The population organizes and makes their grievances known

3) The leader of said population steps aside and acquiesces to the will of the people.

….Now What…?
As I am writing this the world is celebrating the departure of Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak, their “President” of… 35 years..!?!

During the process I intentionally avoided the obligatory cheer leading, deciding to instead look into what caused the whole outrage in Egypt. Finding the catalyst may take you a few Google searches, a few conversations.. minimal research, but a familiar theme emerges. Mubarak ran an oppressive, segregated regime. Affluent Egyptians enjoyed protection of the government, while for everyone else, there was seemingly no such thing as due process.

This idea of revolution may not prove so effective everywhere else in the Middle East. Leaders of other countries in the region have released statements saying they would KILL everyone to maintain order. It is also not exactly clear if and when the Egyptian military will hold elections, but for now… I suppose… VIVA La Revolucion!

P.S. WHOEVER it was who rode that camel through the crowd…all on CNN and sh**…lol.. You Were WRONG for that one (*Stereotype)

Movie Review: Black Swan

Sunday, February 6th, 2011

This is probably the most talked about release of 1st quarter 2011. Natalie Portman stars as a ballerina faced with the dilemma of uncovering her dark side.

While there will be detractors… (there always are).. I am happy to say that I love the job Natalie Portman has done. She obviously prepared for the role extensively, along with the 50 other movies she has coming out.

So… for those of you NOT familiar with “Swan Lake” (SURE..! of course I am,, *cough) The main role is the white swan, played by the prima ballerina. The black swan is played by the same person. Now in order to convincingly play the black swan, Portman’s character must somehow shed her “Lilly-White” Nature..WAIT.. I said to myself I would not do that…this time.sorry.

Our of respect for the preparation the star went through, the complexity of the story line, and one MARVELOUS scene in which she gets “in touch” with another ballerina (yessss…. Come to Zulu, ladies) I will avoid all ‘White vs. Black’ references. Despite that small issue, I do see a theme of the suffering artist who has the talent, but their performance is somehow bridled by mental hurdles.

Professionals: Be kind. A movie like this will invariably will spur interest in your art form.

Rating: *4/5 Stars

Just when you think you’ve heard it all…

Talk Positive Riddim – Caballo Version !!Free Download!! by processrebel

… Someone comes out of the woodwork with an almost belligerent, Spanish rap style… and names a bunch of Reggae artists as influences. When you factor in a Death Metal background, the combination can only result in “Something The Lord Did Not Make”…

Munchi Feat Caballo- RUAS DE GRECIA by caballo

In his native Columbia, Antonio Caballero (MC Caballo) was undoubtedly exposed to some of the more realistic aspects of life. Although he emigrated to Toronto Canada in 2007 much of his experiences stayed with him. They are expressed in the overall defiant tone that he takes in his tracks.

When an artist reaches you on a certain level, it very seldom matters what language they are speaking. You don’t need to know Spanish to realize Caballo is opening a verbal can of whoop ass on corrupt political figures the world over. That point is somehow well communicated.

There is a hint of South American Revolutionary attitude which seems prevalent in many of the artists from the region, but Caballo has taken it a step further. There is no hesitatiting in his expressions. He obviously means every word. Once vocalists capture this non-compromising quality it ultimately draws you in, making you wonder what exactly they are saying. This phenomenon bypasses the formality of languange. A subconscious connection has been made.
