Ghislain Poirier Sound – LIMITED TIME – Free Downloads

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Following hot on the heels of his NinjaTune Debut, and the Go Ballistic E.P., Ghislain Poirier’s Soca Sound System is quietly taking the world by storm. I have seen the songs in rotation across many formats,  including (most importantly to me) Caribbean Soca outlets.

These are the vibes that have absolutely leveled European dancefloors for the last two years.

Now taking full aim at the Western Hemisphere, with his patented “Poirier Sound”, Ghislain will switch focus; from the live band setup to a modern take on the Sound System tradition.

The following mixes are ZShare Downloads, therefore available only for a limited time.

Maga Bo Presents: Ghislain Poirier (A Mini Documentary)

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Maga Bo always seems to get next to some of the more interesting people in music. This time he sits down with Ghislain Poirier to discuss music philosophy. Pay attention to the part where he says he [has no interest in being 'REAL'... REAL does not exist].

… To me that is the TAO of DJ / Producing. You can still serve a purpose (regardless what it is) without being singleminded in your pursuits.

OK.. so they’ve played a lot of my stuff on the BBC before. (Large Up Bobby Friction) Maybe I shouldn’t get so excited, right?… WRONG.  I will always be thrilled, dammit…, because they don’t necessarily HAVE to do it. From what I am hearing, Ghislain gave Mary Anne Hobbs the copy personally. Nicenessss all de while.

Anyway Children, I have realized…
..that I am an artist who does NOT come from a “scene”.. like Houston Tx. (even tho my momma from Tx.), The red hot FLA scene, Jamaica, NYC, or Great Britain.

Chicago is a really a collection of assorted scenes… none big enough for locals to immediately attract a CROWD.D.D, unless they do cheezy cover tunes.  (Red Red Wine, my ass… , so many audiences… , cursed tha fk out, with a smile) Hey.. I love you, but wise up!

It is therefore my responsibility to cultivate my own fan base. I cannot simply do ‘my thing’. I must also let you know how it is making an impact worldwide… or it could seem like ‘no big deal’, and we can’t have that.

Already, I have touched each of the afforementioned “scenes” (and many more) in various ways; and I will do so again…. only this time.. I am keeping track   :o )

Ghislain Poirier f. MC ZULU: Go Ballistic (NinjaTune) OUT NOW

There is nothing like a catchy ass chorus to scare off the wannabe avant-garde, musical elitest.

OK… but this song is not as silly as you might think…

I imagine a group of carefree, happy go lucky hippie types screaming ‘Go Ballistic’ with their hands in the air. Indeed…
I’m one of them

01
Go Ballistic (Ghislain Poirier ft. MC Zulu)

02 Go Ballistic (Toddla T & Duckbeats Remix)

03 Go Ballistic (King Cannibal Remix)

04 Go Ballistic (Tony-O Remix)

05 Ballistic Riddim (Ghislain Poirier)

===-===-===-

Balance that against the harsh realities woven into the verses, reaching out to a disaffected and cynical populous. Again…
I’m one of them.

The first verse is about anyone who takes a stand against unfair protocol..
Malcolm X | Martin Luther King | Ghandi | Etc…

OK… but this song is not as preachy, as you might think…

Really it’s an attempt at seeking balance (Yin/Yang)
and probably way too heavy for commercial airwaves, but I feel like you have to say SOMETHING..

..Doesn’t mean we can’t party, tho.
..hell, it’s always a party. Especially when it’s a NinjaTune release! (9/22/2008)
