This is a 2-shot Riddim with UK Dub poet The SpaceApe on one track, and The Mighty Dub Killerz’ JC Stokes (aka Papa Roads) on the other.
Space Ape is a frequent collaborator of of DJ heavyweight Kode 9 and JC I know personally as a major presence during my time in Chicago, on the punk and Rasta scene. Dub Gabriel played bass for years with probably every important band you ever want to name. The qualifications for a Futuristic Dub hit are securely in place.

This release to me, represents much of the sheer optimism mixed with cautious cynicism that came about as a result of the Rastafarian faith. Rasta did inspire a certain universal thinking among its participants. People who would not even embrace the faith formally, have found themselves immersed in the culture and heavily influenced by the music.
SpaceApe’s poetry reminds me of the Linton Kwesi Johnson albums I grew up listening to, while I have personally witnessd JC Stokes’ Rasta-inspired versatility over Roots, Soul, Rock and Global Bass… in Chicago of all places. Regardless of where the seeds of the faith have been planted (and regardless of how things turned out for Selassie himself) it is always ‘a joy to hear the utterance of Rasta’.
